CPS Algebra Exit Exam: Any student who is currently taking a full year of Algebra is eligible to take Honors Geometry as a freshman if they take and pass the CPS Algebra Exit Exam.  Students currently attending CPS schools or CPS charter schools will take the exam at their school.  Students who do not attend CPS schools will take the exam at a CPS location in May. The CPS Algebra Exit Exam is composed of 40 questions, a mix of multiple choice and machine scored constructed response. There will not be any human scored items on the exam. Students will have 120 minutes to complete the exam.

Geometry

Each year, we have students who took and passed the CPS Algebra Exit Exam during seventh grade and are taking Geometry as eighth graders.  Some students are taking Geometry at neighborhood high schools, and others are taking it at their elementary schools.

Students taking Geometry:  Students who are taking a full year of Geometry in eighth grade must provide an email or letter from their math teacher or other official on school letterhead. The letter must include the name and CPS ID number of the student who has completed Geometry, the name of the instructor, the student’s first and second semester grades, and a copy of the Geometry syllabus.  The school official can submit one letter listing the names of all students who are taking a full year of Geometry and will be coming to Lane Tech next year.  The letter and syllabus should be emailed directly to Ms. Johnson at tecarroll@cps.edu. Students who submit this letter will be placed in H Algebra II/Trig. Students who are taking Geometry at a high school with a certified high school teacher will have the Geometry class added to their transcript

Here is a sample letter from last year.  Please share this information with your geometry teacher:

This letter is to certify that all students listed below, who currently attend XXXX Elementary School, are enrolled in good standing in (Honors or Regular) Geometry at XXXX High School, under the instruction of Ms./Mr. Teacher Name, Geometry Teacher. By the end of this school year, these students will have passed two semesters of high school geometry with a B or higher.
