DAMIR ARA

BIOGRAPHY:
Mr. Ara has been teaching at Lane Tech for five years. He has a Bachelor’s degree from DePaul University School of Computer Science and Art, and a Master’s degree also from DePaul. He teaches Graphic Design using software such as Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator, and Animation using Adobe Flash and iMovie. In his classes, he teaches everything from drawing and communication through art, to image alteration and digital photography. He is also a freelance photographer, designer, and a musician.






AMY ARTER

BIOGRAPHY:
Ms. Arter has been teaching at Lane Tech for seven years. She is certified to teach both English and art, and has taught both subjects at Lane. She has a Bachelor’s degree from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale in English Education with a minor in art. She later studied art at the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana to become fully certified to teach in that field. She creates both sculptural and functional art primarily using clay as the medium of choice. Her sculptural work focuses mainly on the concepts of birth and fertility and uses assembled and altered forms created using a potter’s wheel. She also creates an array of functional wares using both hand building and wheel-throwing techniques.



RICK CEH

BIOGRAPHY:
Mr. Ceh is currently the Art Department Chairman at Lane and he teaches junior-level drawing and painting courses and Advanced Placement Drawing. He is also a painter working primarily in oil and acrylic realism. He graduated from the University of Illinois Circle campus. He taught at Lake View High School before coming to Lane.








 

WALTER  ERIKSON

BIOGRAPHY:
Mr. Erikson previously taught art at Hirsch High School for ten years. At Lane Tech, he was Chair of the Drafting Department for over ten years. He received a Bachelor’s in Education from Northeastern University in Chicago. With experience in both art and drafting, he brings an emphasis on perspective to his Art I and Art Appreciation classes. His student work has been featured in architectural competitions and exhibits at the Museum of Science and Industry. In his spare time, Mr. Erikson participates in Civil War reenactments and rides horses in Arizona.





 

ADELE FRIEDMAN

BIOGRAPHY:
Ms. Friedman teaches Introduction to Painting and Drawing for art majors and Advanced Placement Art History. She has her MFA and a graduate degree in Art History, both from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Her work has been exhibited internationally in Paris, Berlin, Vienna, London, Tokyo, and in the U.S. at the Museum of Modern Art in New York and the Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago. Ms. Friedman has taught at Columbia College, the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, Daley College, and Truman College.





 

DARIA McMEANS

BIOGRAPHY:
Ms. McMeans teaches Beginning Photography and Advanced Placement 2-D Design. She holds a Master’s of Art in Art Education from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and she received a BA in Painting and Drawing from Pepperdine University. She has taught at Lane for the past eight years, and she has previously taught art education classes at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and photography at Marwen. Ms. McMeans is a painter and photographer.






 

AMY MOORE

BIOGRAPHY:
Ms. Moore teaches Studio Sculpture I and II, and Advanced Placement 3-D Design. She has a BFA in ceramics and painting from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, a BA from Tulane University where she studied architecture and ancient history, and she earned a Master’s degree in Education from UIC. She teaches ceramics courses for teachers and teens at Marwen and has taught art classes at Lill Street Art Center, IIT, and the Museum of Science and Industry. Her life-sized ceramic figure sculptures and pottery have been featured at the Hyde Park Art Center, Lill Street Gallery, and Marwen.

KATHERINE NESTER

BIOGRAPHY:
Ms. Nester teaches Studio Sculpture I, Art Appreciation, and Art I. She has her BFA in ceramics and sculpture from Western Illinois University, her Secondary Education and history degree from Trinity International University, and she studied watercolor in Provence, France. Her wheel-thrown pieces have been selected for inclusions at galleries in Chicago.

KRISTINA SIMANIS-LAIMINS

BIOGRAPHY:
Ms. Simanis teaches yearbook, art history, and art appreciation classes. She received her Bachelors of Fine Arts degree from California College of the Arts and her Masters of Education from the College of New Jersey. She also edits a monthly magazine published in Latvian. In her spare time she enjoys working with clay and traveling.
