Incoming Freshmen

Lane Tech College Prep High School is a selective enrollment school whose student body is chosen through a formula, which incorporates standardized test scores, attendance, academic grades, and the results of the entrance exam. Each year approximately 1,000 freshmen are chosen from more than 10,000 applicants. Students are encouraged to work with their elementary school counselor throughout the application process.

The regular selection period for incoming freshmen for the 2014-2015 school year is closed. Principal Discretion decision letters will be mailed from the Office of Access and Enrollment on April 28, 2014. All Principal Discretion decisions are final. Lane Tech does not offer shadow days for prospective students or incoming freshmen. For information about the history of our school, visit the pages under "About us." For information about our academic offerings, visit our Curriculum Page or Digital Course Catalog.

Test Dates

The selective enrollment exam test dates have not been set for the 2014-2015 school year. Testing typically occurs from October-January. All students currently attending CPS schools received a letter from the Office of Access and Enrollment in September stating their eligibility to test for selective enrollment schools. The PIN number on this letter will allow you to sign up to take the selective enrollment exam. Your child must register for a test date. Walk-ins will not be eligible to take the exam.

Open House

Parents and students who would like more information about attending Lane Tech are invited to our annual Open House. Parents and guests do not need to register to attend Open House. At Open House, you will have the opportunity to listen to the principal speak, go on a guided tour of the building, receive an informational booklet, and be able to speak with teachers and counselors from all departments.

Open House is Sunday, November 3, 2013 from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm for sixth grade students who are interested in the Academic Center (LTAC), and 1:00-3:00 pm for students who wish to attend high school at Lane Tech.
